A nuphoric night

This weekend I got to shoot at The Guinguette by Moja again, which is by far one of my favourite places in Tokyo. It’s one of those funky, warm places where you can listen to your favourite swing band and still enjoy your friends’ company, surrounded by a million of relaxing, colourful lights. I discovered it thanks to my friend (and lindy hop teacher :P), Ryoko Munster, who – as you may imagine – plays in a swing band.

The Guinguette by Moja

That being said, last saturday (Feb. 28th) the multi and overly-talented Marcellus Nealy threw a party that blew that place up. The huge Guinguette was packed, and I barely had enough room to move around without bumping my camera into someone (my terrible headache didn’t help, either). For the event, he brought together former members of what he calls “one of the most soulful parties Tokyo had ever known”, Nuphoria – an event combining live music, art, dance and DJs . So the night turned out to be an apparently unlikely fusion of rock, funk and reggae. But that suite of amazingly talented indie musicians just blazed the whole place up in love of music and friends. It was one of those nights when I remembered why I love the indie scene –  that unique exhilaration you feel when you’re surrounded by the most talented, creative, free spirited friends.

Anyway, here are a few shots from the event.
